Kristin Scanio is a native of Tampa, Florida and began dancing at the age of 2 years old at Mary Jo’s Performing Arts Academy. She was a member of the Universal Movement Performing Arts Company Competition Team for many years and had the privilege of studying under world renowned artists. Kristin graduated from the Academy of the Holy Names High School.

 

In addition to dance, Kristin found a passion for volleyball. While playing volleyball for the Jaguars she was named MaxPreps Ranking Service #1 setter in 3A District 1 and ranked #12 setter in the state of Florida. In addition, Kristin played club volleyball and represented Tampa against clubs from all over the country. Kristin accepted a full scholarship to play Division 1 volleyball at University of Louisiana. She later transferred back to Florida and graduated from Florida State University with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Childcare Development. She is certified in Acrobatics Arts and Dance. Upon graduating from FSU, she joined the MJPAA Faculty in 2012 and now serves as the Assistant Director for the Academy, a Board member for Universal Movement Company as well as on the Board of Directors of Tampa Bay Triple Threat Theatre. 

 

For the past 5 years, Kristin has been collaborating with her mom, Mary Jo Scanio, to create a program that incorporates the mind and physical coaching necessary for a dancer to reach their highest possible potential.Together they have now launched the Intensive Training Program (ITP), an accelerated cross-training program focused on training the dancer’s mind, body and soul.
